Prayer hands

A couple of years ago I saw a post on creating prayer hands for your children. I really liked the idea and decided to do it for MJ and Lj. So each year I draw round their hands, choose a verse from the Bible for one side and write a prayer appropriate to them on the other side- it is quite nice to think about what your prayer for them for this year might be. I then laminate to protect them and add them to their split ring. This is the third year I have done it and apart from watching how their little hands are growing it is nice to be able to reflect on what was important for each stage of their lives. I keep them with my bible and daily bible study notes so that each day I can pray through their prayer for this year. The kids are also fascinated by them!

2015 Card range 'buttons&sequences'

At the beginning of each New Year I try and make a collection of cards so that I have a few in reserve for the year ahead. It helps to make them at the beginning of the year as then you know who has received one and hopefully mean you don't send the same card twice!

On Tuesday I attended my monthly Craft and Coffee morning. A lady had brought along a box of buttons she no longer wanted. I had a little rummage and took home a few in pinks and purples. Before Christmas I had purchased a bag of pink sequence in the 99p shop and as I saw the two things together I was inspired.

I find Men's cards so much more difficult so will have to wait for the inspiration on that one!

I also want to do a kids range but Lj seems happy enough to manage that one at the minute...this week she made three for up and coming birthday parties.

'In the beginning' Wednesday club #7

We are going to start a new series this week.

Starting at the beginning of the bible we will consider some of the key historic events.

To start we will create a time line of the various stories. Using a long piece of ribbon and clothes pegs we will produce a picture each week which can be placed on the time line. This should help the children remember the historical sequence of events.

'In the beginning'

Show on U tube ‘Frozen, Elsa creates her palace’.
Discuss how Elsa creates her ice palace. Introduce how God had the power to create this world. God spoke and the world came into being.

·The Bible (God’s Word) tells us that God spoke and things

came into being

·God said “Let there be light” and there was light.

As we learn what God created we will make a picture for our time line using coloured pieces of paper and pictures which I cut out of magazines. We will begin with a large black sheet of paper to show the darkness which was before creation and gradually add colour for light, water, space, land, birds, fish, animals and humans.

·First God created light and divided the light from the darkness

·Next God divided the waters above from the waters below and

made the heavens and the earth

·Then God separated the water from the dry land

·Then God made the sun, the moon, and the stars

·Then God made the birds of the air and the fish of the seas

·Then God made all the animals that walk on the earth

·And last of all, God made man, in His own image

·When he had finished God called all that He had created ‘good’.

Let’s pray and thank God for making everything!

Prayer:
Dear God,

Thank you for making everything!

Thank you that you made us!

Thank you that you love us!

Help us to love you back!

Amen

Memory Verse:

‘God saw everything that he had made and it was very good.’ Genesis 1v31

Craft
We are going to add colour to our pots which we made last week.

Christmas 2014 through Lj's lens

Lj asked for a camera for Christmas and her clever Nana sourced a great, kid friendly one for her.
As you can imagine she took a few photos (300 approx) over the holidays so here is a tiny selection which sum up our Christmas and New Year!

First Christmas in Tattenhall at Nana's house.

Catching up with nieces!

I love how she took a photo of 'Frozen'...that is certainly a memory of Christmas 2015 and I wonder if we will ever forget her reciting the words as we travelled home in the car. 'Can I say something crazy? Will you marry me?'. 'Can I say something even crazier? Yes!' and of course 'Family, Yo Ho'!

Trying out her new camera on Christmas morning.

Trying out her new scooter!

Fun with cousins

A Christmas day selfie!

'Jesus Turns Water into Wine' Wednesday club #6

Jesus' first miracle- He Turns the Water into Wine at the Wedding in Cana.

Aim: Performing miracles is something only God can do, and turning the water into wine is no exception!
Opening game:
As we are thinking about Jesus and his mother at a wedding we began by designing wedding dresses from crepe paper and masking tape. With three in each group someone was the bride and the other two designed and made the dress on the bride.

Story:
Jesus and His Disciples were invited to a Wedding
• How many of you have ever been to a wedding? (Wait for answers; some of them may have even been IN a wedding – flower girl, ring bearer, etc.
Allow the children to tell you a little about weddings.)
• During a wedding a bride and a groom come together and are married.
• They invite their friends and family to be there.
• They used to have weddings a long time ago (during Jesus’ time) too.
• Jesus and His Disciples were invited to a wedding at Cana in Galilee.
Jesus’ mother, Mary, was there too!
• You remember Mary, Jesus’ mother.
Review who Mary is.
Talk about the Christmas story some, if necessary.
• Mary was invited to the wedding as well.
• She was there along with Jesus and His Disciples.
• Mary is an important part of this story.
During the Wedding Feast, they ran out of wine.
• Wedding feasts back then usually lasted several days.
• During the feasts, the families of the bride and groom would stay together and eat and drink together.
• It was considered very important to have enough food and drink for everyone who was at the celebration for all those days.
• But at this celebration, they ran out of wine! (Uh oh!)
• Mary came to Jesus and told Him.
• Jesus said to her “Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come.”
• But Mary told the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.”
Jesus performed a miracle: He turned water into wine.
• There were 6 big stone water containers sitting there.
• Jesus told the servants to fill them all up with water.
• They filled them all the way up (20-30 gallons each!)
• Then He told them to dip out of one of the containers and take it to the Master of the Feast.

Help the children visualise what happened. Put a few drops of red food colouring in the bottom of 6 large glasses. From a jug of water, pour water into each glass. The kids were amazed as they hadn't seen the red food colouring in the glass beforehand.

• When the servants took him the cup, it was full of wine!
• It was the best wine of all!
His Disciples believed in Him!
• Jesus would do other miracles later, but this was the first one He did.
• The only reason He could do a miracle like this was that He was he
Son of God!
• Jesus’ Disciples were there and they saw what happened.
• His Disciples believed in Jesus!

Memory Verse:

Acts 16v31 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be Saved'.

The kids learnt the memory verse by playing hopscotch. Each child took it in turn to hop along each word of the verse. They repeated it many times and were so excited to keep having more turns. Once I thought they knew the verse I started one at a time turning words over so by the end they were hopping down the line saying the verse without having to read it.

Activity:
Clay pots using air dry clay. We used the coil method. Each child rolled out their clay and wrapped it around a plastic drinking tumbler. The younger kids 4/5 struggled a little and needed help but the 6/7's were more than able and in turn helped the little ones.

'Jesus and his miracles' Wednesday club #5

Christmas is over, the kids are back at school and I'm trying to catch up all that has not been completed in the past 3 weeks. I didn't even get round to posting this on the last week of Wednesday club. Better late than never!

As last week we had a few kids absent and this week being the last before Christmas I thought we would do some recapping and a fun edible craft.

Aim
To get a good understanding of why Jesus was special by considering the miracles that he performed.

Story
We will watch the first 15mins of The beginners bible story of Jesus and his Miracles

Game
In twos or threes the children choose from the hat a miracle that Jesus performed. Then they will reenact it in front of the other children while they try to guess which miracle is being acted out.
You could also have props on a tray for example- small boat, fish, doctors kit, empty jugs, water, wine for the children to guess the miracle.

Memory Verse
We will recap the two verses we have learnt so far.
John 3v16
Matthew 1v21

Activity

Edible snowmen using marshmallows, giant chocolate buttons, smarties/midge gems (to construct hat), melted white chocolate (to attach the pieces together), strawberry laces (scarf), matchmakers/pretzels (for arms), decorating pens (eyes and mouth) and cake pop sticks or strong straws to push the marshmallows on to.
