Key lime pie and shrinkles

With M away for the weekend with the car we had to come up with our own car free fun.

Over the half term break we tried making No Bake Key Lime Pie. The kids loved both the making and the eating of it so this weekend we had another go. I'm keen for them to learn how to follow recipes and learn basic baking skills. This is a great recipe to start with as it seems pretty fool proof and tastes amazing.

Last time MJ worked on making the base, while Lj made the filling/topping. This time I thought they might like to swop but no, they were keen to perfect what they had tried before.

MJ finished first and while the base was chilling in the fridge I set him to work on washing the dishes...I don't want the thought of washing up to put them off cooking and baking but at the same time it is a job which has to be done.

Next weekend I'm leading a crafting party for a 7 yr old and her 11 friends so we tested the crafts and got some more prep work done together. Here, they are drawing on shrink plastic which we then put in the oven to shrink and thicken before turning them into a 'Applejack' brooch for Lj and a 'Steve' key ring for MJ.

We had a fun day staying at home on Saturday. However, on Sunday it was time to get some fresh air and adult contact so we walked to the train station and caught the train to church (a train journey of 8 minutes!!). On the return leg we stopped off in town and had some lunch before braving the cold, up hill walk home. Then it was snuggles and snoozes on the sofa as we watched 'Inside out' and waited for Daddy to come home.

Flow charts

MJ spent time after dinner one evening teaching Lj all about flow charts...they giggled and laughed as they came up with ideas... such as 'Do you like Minecraft'- 'No' - 'You are a normal person'

Boredom sticks

For 30mins MJ repeated in M's ear that he was bored. As it was the beginning of half term I feared for a week of 'I'm bored' so we came up with a plan. I got a bunch of lolly sticks and together we wrote ideas on each one of things we could so. I wrote 'tidy my room', 'read a book' etc and he wrote 'play lego', 'screens' etc. I put the stick in a jam jar while he built a stick dispensing machine from lego! The first stick out was 'hama beads'. He spent 4 hrs that afternoon, at least 4 hrs the next day and a few hours the next day creating minecraft inspired items. I'm still in shock!

Trip to A&E and healing smoothies

Lily's A & E
Going to school
One sunny Monday, Evie and I were playing on the wobbly bridge. We were swinging and I fell on my bottom and then I went to the medical lady and fainted.
Ms J came out and took me to her office and laid me on the bed.
My Mummy and Mrs C came. I felt tired and sick so they called an ambulance.
Then when they were launching me they nearly tipped me off! Then they wheeled me in a wheel chair. Then we sat down and waited for the nurse. When it was our turn to go to the nurse they called 'Carrier'. Then we sat back down and waited to be seen 3 times. And then I went back home. When we got back I was sick! The End.

A day off with healing smoothies to recover!

'London' by Lj

This terms topic for Lj is 'London'. Yesterday she came home with this picture which I just love!

The weekend Albert came to visit

It was a fairly average weekend for us...

MJ playing minecraft on the computer. M preparing and delivering a sermon at church. Myself on kids church. Lj playing hospital with her friends.

But although it was a normal weekend we had the company of Albert, Lj's class bear.
Albert helped Lj make pancakes for breakfast. Albert went to ballet. Albert sat in the baby seat on Lj's bike as she went for a ride. Albert played football with M and Lj. Albert met Lj's friends and came along to church. We felt sad to say goodbye to Albert on Monday morning.
